New to amateur radio?

Your first contact starts here

You do not need a station or any experience. Come and meet the club first.

  1. Visit the clubhouse

Come to a breakfast or a bootsale, see the stations working and ask every question you have.

  2. Study for the Radio Amateur's Examination

The SARL publishes the study manuals for the Class A and Class B licences. The club runs classes when there are enough students.

  3. Write the exam

The RAE is run nationally by the SARL.

  4. Get your callsign

With a pass, you apply to ICASA for your licence and callsign.

  5. Get on the air

Make your first contact on the club repeater, 145.650 MHz, with members listening out for you.
